Orlovačko Lake – a natural gem of Zelengora

Orlovačko Lake is one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located on the Zelengora mountain, which is part of the Sutjeska National Park. This gorgeous mountain lake, surrounded by pristine nature and lush greenery, attracts numerous tourists from all over the world.

It is situated at an altitude of 1438 m above sea level. It is about 1 km away from Jugovo Lake. The length of the lake is about 350 m, its width is approximately 100 m, and its average depth is around 5 m. The lake can be accessed from several directions, from Foča, Gacko, and Kalinovik, via gravel roads. These roads are not in the best condition, so a bumpy, dusty ride of about an hour is required. However, all of this is quickly forgotten upon encountering this gem of Zelengora.

High temperatures here are experienced quite differently since the breeze never stops and pleasantly cools the surroundings. Moreover, for additional cooling, swimming in the clear lake water is extremely refreshing.

In between swims, it’s hard to resist not exploring the surrounding peaks, which are suitable for walking. The sounds of bell-wearing sheep and cows grazing around the lake indicate that delicious mountain cheese and cream can be found in nearby summer mountain pastures (katuns).
